Vehicle Types
If you haven’t decided which vehicle you’d like to purchase, now is the time to do it. You don’t want to wait till you hit the dealership lot to make such an important decision, that’s how people find themselves in a car they don’t even really like. At Massachusetts Auto Loans, we want all of our visitors to make informed decisions about which vehicle is best for them. Here’s a look at the major types of vehicles and some of their advantages and disadvantages.
Sports Cars
The definition of a sports car has always been difficult to nail down. Some say it should be based off the car’s body, while others say it’s all about the engine or horsepower. Suffice it to say, a sports car is typically considered any smaller vehicle that has stylish looks and great speed. These vehicles are often expensive and aren’t afraid to sacrifice seating or storage for speed.
Compacts
Although they’ll never be mistaken for a family vehicle, compact cars excel in several areas. These vehicles make perfect sense for students or people who just need to get to and from work without hauling too much around. They tend to receive high marks for fuel efficiency, but get graded on the lower end for safety tests.
Sedans
Your common everyday vehicle, the 4-door sedan is the car of choice for the majority of people. It’s fairly versatile and can make a decent enough family vehicle, assuming your family doesn’t consist of more than 3-4 people. Today, many sedans are focusing on gas mileage, so you can expect pretty good fuel economy from them.
Crossovers
What exactly is a crossover? Is it a small SUV or a large station wagon? The truth usually lies somewhere in-between. Crossovers come in all types of shapes and sizes, ranging from boxy to sleek. Over the past several years, these ambiguous vehicles have become increasingly popular, with most of these major manufactures rolling out their own unique brand.
Trucks and SUVS
While trucks and sport utility vehicles exploded in popularity during the 2000’s, high gas prices have led many people in search of an alternatives. Fortunately, it has helped bring down costs for these larger vehicles. If you have a large family, an SUV still makes an excellent choice with their spacious interiors and high safety ratings.
Hybrids
Although they remain somewhat expensive, all types of hybrid vehicles have been in high demand for years. Most hybrids are sedans, compacts, or crossovers, but there are a few SUV’s out there too. As you would expect, hybrids generally attain the best gas mileage out of all types, but are often forced to sacrifice speed and horsepower.
